Thought this might be a fun driver if I could have picked it up for the right price. Elkhorn, is 5 minutes from me so i contact the seller via EBay to look at the car. He replied by saying he was busy and could show it to me on Friday. I immediately responded to him pointing out that the listing will have expired by then. Have not heard back from him. Needless to say i no longer have interest in this car!

Anyone else smell a rat? Just thought i would share this with the forum if anyone here was interested in the car.

here's what little i know about 850 shopping:
1. the floor board is ubber important. even more so than a 124 Spider. doors that dunn close right are a key indicator of unibody rust because the floor is sagging. Although i cannot see any sag with this particular car.
2. the engine bay came with a belly pan. good luck finding a replacement belly pan
3. second most common place for rust is around the gas tank (front trunk).
4. sellers will complain that the car will not go into gear. i think the fix is about $25.00, and the part is called a lollypop.

i had an opportunity to buy one here a couple of years ago. the seller HAD to get what she had into the car, $1200.00. unfortunately, it was a 1973, and had all of the above issues. the '73 i discovered was a change over year, and the only year that particular dash was available. low survival rate meant that i'd be lucky to find replacement dash parts that the car sorely needed. additionally, the floor was unfixable, you COULD NOT close the doors w/out lifting them, and i nearly was able to stick a finger thru the sheet metal. the gas tank had been replaced by a quarter barrel, and the front trunk rust hole was big enough for me to climb through. The car came from northern Illinois before this seller bought it. it was an Ebay sale. i remember posting a warning at this forum concerning that car at the time. i knew the seller was gonna stick some unsuspecting buyer eventually... and after a year, i was right.

buyer beware. especially with uncooperative sellers on Ebay. He ain't home ANYTIME between now and Friday? Bull.

based on what i see in those pictures, you could part it out for the price it is currently being auctioned at ($1500.00). A sports car selling in January in Wisconsin ain't likely to get much more than that. since there is no transportation costs involved, you can be top bidder for $1550.00
