And We Think Our FIATS Are Fast?

Post by sptcoupe »

Take a look at the rearward facing view in a dragster that gets to 267 MPH in a hurry. I wonder how many G's the driver is pulling?

Love the video, Thanks. But really, are your fiats fast? I would not say that mine is FAST. I think it runs well and goes down the road nice but I would not call it fast. We have this old Kia that I drive to work and back. It has a 4cly and it would blow the doors off of the Fiat any day of the week, and I would not call it fast either. Am I doing something wrong?

I work as a crew member on a op alcohol dragster. They are even more awesome in person. And the fuel cars running the same motor on nitromethane,go 330 mph in the quarter!Until you have been to see them in person, there is no way to explain what an assault on your senses they are.Your whole body shakes when they take off,and the fumes are like tear gas.I love it !!

Yep, it's something everyone should witness and something you won't ever forget. Did you see the heat coming off that engine before he took off?

Not sure if it's heat , or the vapor from the very highly oxygenated alcohol fuel... but either way... it's very cool!

and no, I don;t think there's any stretch of the imagination that could call out fiats fast.... (well... maybe Rey's? )...
but I don;t think he meant it literally.

Not sure I would want to stand behind a top fuel dragster when it launches. Shorts and t-shirts...

last year, during a NHRA event, the throttle return failed on a fuel car while the chief was pulling the throttle stop. The car 'hit' and literally blew the pants off the crew chief.Burned him badly.I think of that every time we launch...because I am responsible for pulling out the stop.
The waves you see are mainly vapor, although they run plenty hot!The nitro is odd stuff. You can drop a match in a cup of it,and itbarely simmers, unlike gas.It is so cold that if the car idled too long, frost forms on the blower! But once its oxygenated it causes huge explosions, hopefully in the motor.Last week a car backfired thru the blower and it literally blew the body in a million pieces. If you have never been to a NHRA event, you owe it to yourself to go one time. One fuel car makes more power than the first 5 rows of a NASCAR race combined.
