24 Hours of LeMons in a Fiat? YES!!!!

Post by ga.spyder »

That is correct. After a year of dissappointment,we are a go for the race.We will be trailering a big race trailer with our little car inside to Kershaw,SC.The race is Sat an Sun,but we have an open track test on Friday. We are amped!!!! The team consists of Denise, myself, some geek from Volvo and a British car guy named Kevin(we were desperate for drivers w/ money :D )The car is a 78 rustbucket donor. We have done suspension, brakes, tranny, rebuilt 1600w/a holley 2bbl,full NASCAR style cage,w/Kirkey seat. There isnt a piece of this car that hasnt been touched, rebuilt,or welded. It is sitting so low that we can scoop wooly worms with our spoiler  20 gallon fuel cell should keep us out there longer than most cars.Me and Denise figure to drive the most and let the other 2 sniff the wheel occasionally!! Denise's husband Ron is going as a advisor,he is a ex-NASCAR crew chief. We have compressor,generator,a/c,toolbox,etc...in the trailer. In short ...we are as ready as we can be.So..wish us luck.I will document with pix and keep you guys posted on our progress

Ah..Mark.We are closer to a $500 car than most anyone out there. The car was a donor. We had the shocks, cut our springs.etc..The $500 is for the car only.Any safety items arent included in the $500(brakes,roll cage,tires,seats,belts,etc..).We had most of that stuff already. We spent money on the front end,and engine rebuild. There are guys out there w/$500 Miatas,BMWs and Porsches. Right!!!We are lucky that Ron has a NASCAR background and afully equipped shop.We wont be the fastest or the prettiest, but we will be prepared as well as anyone!

Beek, you would have to ask Denise for specifics.I know he raced a ARCA car for a long while. Then he was a crew chief on a Busch series car.He is a realy knowledgable guy.
Mark,I think the organizers have an option to claim a car.Maybe to keep people from showing up in ALMS prototypes :D There is also a 'peoples curse' award. The car with the most votes gets crushed by heavy equipment.Last year a guy was pulled in for ramming everyone on the track. They welded steel spikes facing into his radiator. He stopped using his chrome horn.If a car is too nice, they penalize you laps etc..All in good fun and the cheapest way for a few people to get track time.

Good Luck! Sounds like it turned out to be alot of work. You should bring it to CA to race, you won't get stuck with Volvo weinies.

Craig!!! Wow! With all that going on, do not forget to take photos and videos to share. That is sooooo cool. Have fun!!

I have only been to the track once, Sebring, when I had the '02 996TT and it was a blast. It was a Drivers Education event but still managed 155mph in the straights and drove the car hard for a rookie. The instructor next to me made all the difference. I need to set time aside to have some more fun at the track...
